Calendar of Events

October 19, 2011:  Birding in England and Scotland with Mariette and Dave Nowak
Join the Nowaks for this presentation on their recent month-long trip to England and Scotland. Along the way, they sighted many of the beautiful birds of Britain, including shags and shelducks, puffins and lapwings.  They also visited Dunbar, the birthplace of the famed conservationist John Muir, who spent much of his youth in Wisconsin.

November 16, 2011:  A Region Built on Water:  Milwaukee’s Use and Abuse of a Vital Resource
John Gurda, historian, will look at Lake Michigan and its adjacent watersheds; how they serve the community as transportation routes, recreational resources, and industrial corridors, and how they weathered a cycle of heavy use and flagrant abuse to emerge as a focal point of both celebration and concern in the twenty-first century.

February 15, 2012:  Raptors and the Experiences of a Hawk Watcher
Seth Cutright has a passion for raptors, and for the past few migratory seasons he has pursued this passion by being the official hawk counter at some of the leading hawk migration sites in the eastern U.S.  He recounts some of his experiences and shares his raptor photos.

March 21, 2012:  Earthcare, Greener roofs and Gardens
Darrell Smith and John LaPointe provide earth-friendly ways of caring for landscapes.  Their respective businesses offer creative landscaping with native plants, effective water management and organic turf care.  The landscapes are aesthetically pleasing, sustainable, and healthy for people and the environment.

April 18, 2012:  Falconry:  A Modern Falconer and His Birds of Prey
Gary Cox and his Harris hawks are unique prey pals.  Gary, a licensed falconer, will share with us the commitment and training involved with his birds.  Falconers improve the survival rates for bird of prey and also provide rehabilitation for injured and sick birds

Special Sightingscardinal

The Wisconsin Metro Audubon Society also sponsors and participates in many events outside the regularly scheduled programs. We have such events as the annual Breakfast with the Birds, and field trips throughout the year, including the Sanctuary at Monastery Lake. We also take part in some events including Bird-a-thons, sponsored by the National Audubon Society. These special events are held more infrequently. Please feel free to email us to find out about future special sightings.
