CHAPTER CHATTER

AUDUBON ADVENTURES
Feathers, Fur, Fins, Wings and Water is the 2011-2012 Audubon Adventures theme. This is a professionally developed nature program, sponsored by the National Audubon Society. It introduces, educates and connects children to the natural environment around them. The program, geared to children in grades 3-6, can be used by classroom teachers, after school program coordinators, special education teachers, language arts teachers and home school program coordinators.

Resource materials include a teaching manual, background facts and information, class sets of 4 separate magazines which will thrill and inspire students with vibrant photos and lively illustrations that bring the natural world to life.

Connecting children with nature is one of Wisconsin Metro Audubon's goals. WMAS will provide Audubon Adventures to qualified educators. If you are a teacher, or know someone who might be interested in participating during the 2011-2012 school year, please contact Diane Lembck. (414) 425-9616

MEMBERSHIP AND RENEWAL
bird watchingWE NEED YOU! Wisconsin Metro Audubon Society is the local chapter of National Audubon Society. Our chapter is comprised of volunteers who may be interested in birds, nature, ecology, environment, and conservation. It is not just a group interested in birds. Our mission is to inform the public and encourage wise environmental practices through education and conservation. We will work toward a future when children and adults will respect, appreciate, and protect the environment.

If you would like to become more involved with WMAS, sharing your ideas and abilities, please call Diane Lembck, President, (414) 425-9616

Did you know that you can renew your National Audubon Society membership through WMAS? This is a great help to our chapter, as your contribution of $40 will help provide vital support for our conservation and education efforts. It guarantees that $20 will go directly to WMAS. The remaining $20 will go to National Audubon for the magazine subscription and National membership.

A $20 per year Chapter Supporter membership will continue to be available. WMAS retains the $20 fee and all Chapter benefits will be available to the member. A National membership and the magazine will not be included.

See the membership form on the back of this newsletter, or download the form from the WMAS website: www.wimetroaudubon.org.

NEWSLETTER CHANGE
"The Trumpeter", the Wisconsin Metro Audubon Society newsletter, will be changing! Jennifer Ambrose, a college English instructor and blog writer, will assume the writing and editing of the newsletter with the Winter Edition in January, 2012. She contributed to the Summer and Fall editions.

You will experience through her writing her enthusiasm for birding and compassion for animals. Bird identification was taught to her by her grandparents and she discovered that watching birds was a great relaxation experience. You will also appreciate her photography skill.

I will be "retiring" after 13 years of writing The Trumpeter. It was certainly a learning experience: writing (I was a retired first grade teacher), learning how Microsoft Word worked, and how computers operated in general! As I researched topics and then wrote about them, I certainly expanded my own knowledge.

Jennifer stepped forward earlier this year and offered to help. How about YOU? We welcome new ideas and active members! WELCOME JENNIFER!
